Something soft, loose and front-opening that you've slept in before. The night before the wedding is not the night to try a new fabric.
Why it matters
Two reasons. Sleep quality, because you want to actually sleep. And skin, because tight elastic, seams and anything that makes you sweat can leave marks or redness that makeup has to cover in the morning.
What to wear
- A loose Tencel or bamboo set. Cool, breathable, no marks. Eva Short Tencel Set or Mila Bamboo Lounge Set.
- A slip. Nothing to press on your skin. The Valentina Slip in white if you want it in the morning photos.
- A satin scrunchie or a satin eye mask. Both help hair and skin stay smooth overnight, which is why so many brides sleep in them.
What to avoid
New fabric you haven't tested. Tight waistbands. Anything wool or fleece if your room is warm. And alcohol after dinner, which is not clothing but makes more difference than clothing does.
If you're staying with your bridesmaids
Matching sets the night before make a lovely photo and mean nobody's scrambling in the morning. Wear the wedding-morning robe over the top when you wake up and you're already dressed for getting ready.
Quick answers
Should the bride sleep in her wedding robe?
No. Sleep in something comfortable and put the robe on in the morning so it's fresh for photos.
Does satin help your skin or hair?
Satin creates less friction than cotton, so hair frizzes less and skin creases less overnight. A satin eye mask or pillowcase is the easy way to get that.
What about the groom?
Same rule. Something he's slept in before. We make men's satin boxers and eye masks if you want to match.
